Motel6, Dover, NH
After a long pause in astronomy, during I worked on my observatory project,
I decided to "restart" to stargazing.
We are at the beginning of 2004. At this time I haven't a clear vision of the size of my future telescope. Sometime I'm looking for a 10" SCT or a 12" maybe more. I'm just sure that this king of telescope can't give me the quality of deep sky photos I see on the web. A paradox?. Not at all, in fact I already know I'll use this telescope for visual observing and studding astronomical objects needed power and magnification and I'll purchase a smaller telescope to produce beautiful pictures.
After several months of searching I finally decided to purchasing a
Meade LX200 GPS 12".
With Internet you can easily know the price of a product all around the world within few clicks. I quickly saw the difference between the European and the USA prices. With the money needed for a 12" in France I can easily buy a 14" in the United States.
At this time my interest turn to a 14". But:
  - first of all, this size of telescope is huge and will be difficult to move.
  - secondly, what's about the warranty?.
For the size, thank to Yahoo! Groups and their members I rapidly had the size and the weigh of the beast (I still waiting for Meade company…). For the warranty the problem was solve rapidly too. In the case of problem I must return the scope to the United States in my charge.
Nevertheless those difficulties I decided to purchase it in the
American ground
.
